50 Cats, Dead and Alive, Removed from Irving Rd Home

Yesterday, more than 50 cats were removed from a home on Irving Road in Sterling Heights. Some cats were living, some were dead (I don't know exactly how many were dead). The house may be treated as a bio-hazard, due to the amount of waste in the basement. The homeowner is said to be a 96 year old woman in one report, but the reports from the Detroit Free Press state that she is a 64-year old woman. The woman was taken to the hospital for a psychiatric evaluation.

Neighbors said they had been complaining about noxious odors coming from the house for years. They said they were unable to enjoy their backyards or even open a window because of the horrid smells.

I have to wonder, if there were noxious odors for years, neighbors had complained...and yet nothing was done about it until this point?!?
